Dear friends and allies across Locals and even District Councils,

In the early hours of the morning today, the City of Philadelphia reached an agreement with District Council 33. The strike is over, and we may all return to work.

The Tentative Agreement must be ratified by the General Membership before it is official. The details of when and how to vote have not yet been released. You may read the full text of the agreement here.

The basic terms of the agreement are as follows:

  • 3-year agreement

  • 3% pay increase each year

  • 5th step added for most of DC33, 3rd step added for Crossing Guards

  • Certain job classes moved to higher pay scales

  • $1,500 bonus

  • Sick Abuse” begins after 6 days (45 hours) rather than 5

Consult the full text of the agreement for more information.

My friends, it has been one of the great honors of my life to serve as a Strike Captain in this historic event. I feel stronger and more connected to all of you than I ever have, and for that I am truly grateful. We successfully shut down every single library and we slowed City operations for all of District Council 33.

We fought together! We sweated out in the heat, we got burned, we cooked, we laughed, and we loved one another. I am proud to be a Union member, and I am proud to know each and every one of you.

In solidarity,

J. Matthew Catron
Local 696 Strike Captain
