Hello! You are probably on this page because you aren’t quite clear on what’s going on here. Please allow me to explain.
My name is J. Matthew Catron. I am a Library Assistant III with just under 9 years experience working for the City of Philadelphia. I built and I maintain this website for the express purpose of getting Union information out to the membership of AFSCME Local 696.
I am also running for Business Agent of AFSCME Local 696 in a hotly contested election.
In March of this year, we had an election. I, along with many of my fellow candidates, noticed the numbers were suspicious, so we investigated and protested the election.
The Rabble Rousers, as a team, overturned the Local 696 election for the first time ever. No 696 election has ever been overturned before.

The Local 696 Election Committee, and our opposition on the SBU- the “Slate for a Better Union”- suppressed your right to vote.
Justice and accessibility are our proven track record. We protested this election so YOU can exercise your right to vote.
The election was run a second time on 20 July 2023, and you’ll never guess what we found: Very similar violations.
AFSCME International agreed with our protests, and now we have a third opportunity to have a free and fair election. Ballots were mailed out on 23 October 2023 and are due back in the hands of American Arbitration Association by the USPS by 14 November 2023. Check those Rabble Rouser boxes and mail your ballots back ASAP!
