A Response to Our Opposition

Thursday, Mary Kachline- Steward/Delegate and Executive Board member on the SBU slate- circulated an email about what Local 696 has accomplished for its membership.

It has some bold claims in it- laughably bold. Kachline, and by extension the SBU, claims responsibility for Juneteenth as a paid holiday. The Juneteenth holiday was established by the state of Pennsylvania in 2019, and was federally recognized by Congress in 2021. District Council 33 President Ernest Garrett openly said in our May General Membership Meeting that he and the rest of AFSCME were not directly involved in that decision.
If that alone wasn’t enough to strip Anthony Dinkins and his team of their credibility, I’d like to share a few more nuggets with you.

Guess again- you, reader, are among the poorest municipal workers in the United States. For reference, the District Council 33 2021 contract gave us a 5.5% raise spread out over 3 years. What was inflation in 2021?
7%. Those of us who stayed through the pandemic lost money by working for the City.

Proposed? As in, I am not currently paying $50 per paycheck for Health & Welfare? Actually, I just checked- and you should, too: The SBU is taking credit for a problem they haven’t even solved.
13 July 2023 edit: Well, it turns out that this one’s actually true. I’m confused why Kachline didn’t share the full information, but this one actually is correct. Good job, Tony & Mark!
I don’t feel the need to continue this charade. There are a few accurate claims in there, or at least, claims that sound accurate. For example,
This is probably true. It is also the basic job description of a labor advocate and not particularly impressive.
Moreover, all Mary provided was a PDF of these claims, with no evidence, documentation, proof, or even testimonials.
We are not even in office, and yet the Rabble Rousers have demonstrated our capability, our ferocity, and our diligence.
